What questions should I ask during my initial consultation?

When you go into an initial consultation with a personal injury law firm, you know, of course you want to give them information about your accident and your injuries. You know, they are essentially trying to get you to hire them. You know, you can interview them and really no questions are off limits.

Some ones I always suggest that people should ask are what’s your experience in this actual type of law? Meaning the car accident, the premises case, the construction accident, like do you actually have serious results and experience in this area of the law? And which lawyer am I going to be assigned to in your firm? Is it going to be a brand new junior lawyer? Is it going to be a highly experienced lawyer in that area of the law? I would also ask, how many how many cases do each lawyer does each team handle at a time? You know, that can make a huge impact.

There are some firms out there where the attorneys are handling two 300 cases at a time. You need to have understand what type of situation you’re walking into so you can understand what type of attention you’re going to get. I would also ask, you know, what is communication like? When should I expect case updates? How frequently by what method of communication? You should they should be able to communicate with you in any way possible. They should be available 24/7. And you should ask them, you know, just how long will this take? How do you feel about this case? Just just, you know, hearing from me now. What should my expectations be? Really, any question you want is on the table. No questions are off limits. Just make sure you really understand what their experience level is, how much time and attention they’re going to give you, how frequently they’re going to communicate with you, and set those expectations from the beginning.
