James Aggrey, 34, of Central New Jersey Injured in Collision with 2020 Volvo Tractor-Trailer Truck on NYS Thruway by Exit 7A

GREENBURGH, NEW YORK (January 8, 2026) – A 34-year-old driver identified as James Aggrey was injured in a Greenburgh semi-truck accident on Interstate 87.
Westchester County officials are saying that the accident took place around 8:50 PM on December 15. James Aggrey was traveling in a 2006 Audi S3 in the right lane of the freeway when he was struck from behind by a 2020 Volvo tractor-trailer truck.
Paramedics were called to the scene of the accident to help the victim. James Aggrey was transported to the Westchester Medical Center with critical injuries.
The driver of the semi-truck remained at the scene and cooperated with police. He sustained minor injuries in the crash. No charges were filed immediately after the collision.
A full investigation into the Greenburgh semi-truck accident remains ongoing at this time.
Liability for Greenburgh Semi-Truck Accidents
Truck drivers must obtain a commercial driver’s license (CDL) and are expected to operate their vehicle with the utmost caution to avoid harming other people on the roadway. They must maintain a safe follow distance at all times with other vehicles. According to New York Vehicle Code 1129, “The driver of a motor vehicle shall not follow another vehicle more closely than is reasonable and prudent, having due regard for the speed of such vehicles and the traffic upon and the condition of the highway.” Several factors could contribute to a rear-end collision.
- Speed: Rear-end collisions are substantially more likely to occur when a driver is traveling at an unsafe speed. Even traveling the speed limit could be unsafe given the prevailing road conditions.
- Inclement Weather: Poor weather conditions can also contribute to an accident. Slick roadways tend to dramatically increase the stopping distance of any vehicle.
- Fatigue: Fatigue can be incredibly dangerous on the road. In fact, the Centers for Disease Control has estimated that staying awake for only 17 hours can reduce a person’s ability to operate safely equal to driving with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.05%.
There is a presumption of negligence on the part of any driver that rear-ends a vehicle in their own lane of traffic. These types of collisions are nearly always the results of drivers that were speeding, distracted, or following the vehicle too closely. If a truck driver is negligent and collides with another vehicle, liability could extend to several parties beyond any driver deemed to be at fault. For example, the company that owned or operated a truck could be vicariously liable for the crash.
Collecting Evidence After a Westchester County Semi-Truck Accident
Thousands of people are killed or seriously injured in accidents with commercial trucks every year. According to the National Safety Council, “In 2023, 114,552 large trucks were involved in crashes resulting in an injury, a 4.7% decrease from 2022. Since 2016, the number of trucks involved in injury crashes has increased 12%, while the involvement rate per 100 million large truck miles driven has remained the same at 35.” It is vital that evidence be collected after any truck accident.
- Police Report: The police should be called to the scene as early as possible so they can create a police report. This report will include important details about the accident, including an officer’s initial impressions of what happened.
- Photos: Photographs of the accident scene can help reveal what may have happened in the lead-up to a collision. For example, a lack of skid marks on the roadway can help show that a driver didn’t even attempt to stop before renting a vehicle.
- Medical Records: All of the medical records and reports related to an accident can be useful in at least two ways. They can help establish the severity of a person’s injuries. They can also reveal how an accident occurred.
- Event Data Recorder: Commercial trucks have a device known as an event data recorder (EDR). This functions in much the same way as the black box on an airplane.
When the circumstances of any collision are uncertain, investigators may turn to accident reconstruction. This is a scientific method for determining how a collision took place. Unfortunately, truck companies will virtually never accept responsibility if one of their drivers is involved in a collision. They are more likely to blame the victim or other third parties. Any person injured due to the actions of a truck driver may be able to seek some measure of accountability through a personal injury claim. Damages in a civil claim can help cover lost wages, medical bills, and pain and suffering.
