What are the right-of-way laws for bicyclists in New York?
In New York, bicyclists are typically treated the same way cars are. So, you have to adhere to the rules of the road. You have to follow traffic signals. You have to use your arms to signal if you’re going to be turning. You should remain in bike lanes if they’re available. And bicyclists are in fact supposed to ride in the street, not on the sidewalks. So, it’s really important that cars on the road are being very aware of where bicyclists are and treating them like their other cars. So, if you would typically have to give the right away to another car, you have that same responsibility with a bicyclist.
